Manatees

Sea cow-Trichechus manatuS

Manatees, also known as sea cows, are large aquatic mammals that are native to the shallow, coastal waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. They are known for their gentle nature and their slow, graceful movements in the water. Manatees are also endangered, and they are protected by law in many parts of the world.

Silver Springs State Park is home to a population of manatees, and the park is a popular destination for people who want to see these fascinating animals up close. The park is located in Marion County, Florida, and it is home to one of the largest artesian spring formations in the world. The clear, crystal-blue waters of the springs provide an ideal habitat for manatees, and the park is a designated manatee sanctuary.

“The park is beautiful and Rebecca is very friendly and helpful! We saw 3 manatees (even a baby!), turtles, monkeys and alligators. We rented the canoe for 3 hours and had so much time. Even without a guide, you can easily find your way around thanks to the map. Best canoe rental!!!”

Monkeys

rhesus macaques

Silver Springs State Park is home to a large group of rhesus macaques, which are native to South and Southeast Asia. These monkeys are known for their distinctive reddish-brown fur and black faces and are among the most widely distributed primates in the world. They are highly social animals and live in large groups, known as troops, which can include up to several hundred individuals.

The monkeys at Silver Springs State Park are a major attraction for visitors and are often seen roaming freely throughout the park. Visitors can observe the monkeys from a distance or take a Clear Canoeing rental through the springs to get a closer look at the monkeys and other wildlife.
